| Reverse description | The reverse presents multiple horizontal lines of Kufic Arabic script filling the central field within a circular linear border, a layout consistent with Abbasid-influenced regional coinage of the early 5th century AH. The inscriptions include the Islamic profession of faith and the name and titles of the ruler Husam al-Dawla Abu'l-Shawk Faris. The flan is irregular and slightly broader than centered, characteristic of hammered production. The script is angular Kufic, densely arranged with some letters showing the crude workmanship typical of provincial Annazid issues. |

The Annazids were a minor Kurdish dynasty controlling territories around Shahrazur and parts of the Zagros highlands, nominally subordinate to the Buyid confederation before Buyid power collapsed in the mid-eleventh century. Husam al-Dawla Abu'l-Shawk Faris ruled through a period of acute regional instability as Seljuk expansion began dismantling the old Buyid order across western Persia and Iraq.
Coinage of this dynasty is sparse in major collections. A#1589 is among the few catalogued types attributable to this ruler with confidence.
