Obverse description Central field contains a four-line Arabic religious legend arranged concentrically within a double-beaded inner circle. The innermost inscription carries the shahada and Quranic text in Kufic script. A secondary legend band encircles the central field between the inner and outer beaded borders, bearing the mint and date formula recording the striking at Fars in the year 297 AH. The outer margin legend contains additional Quranic verses. The flan is irregular and slightly broader than the die, typical of hammered Islamic silver dirhams of the period.
