| Obverse description | Central field occupied by multiple lines of Kufic Arabic inscription arranged horizontally, bearing the shahada and additional religious formulae. The text is rendered in bold, angular Kufic script typical of Abbasid-influenced provincial coinage. A circular marginal legend in Arabic script surrounds the central inscription, running along the inner edge of the coin. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the rim, characteristic of hammered silver dirhams of the period. The overall execution is consistent with provincial mint practice of the Alid rulers of Tabaristan in the late 3rd century AH. |
