Obverse description Obverse of a hammered silver dirham struck at the Arminiya mint in AH 219 (AD 834). The central field contains the Shahada in four lines of Kufic Arabic script: 'There is no god but God alone, He has no partner.' A horizontal linear border separates the central inscription from the circular marginal legend, which reads in Kufic: 'In the name of God, this dirham was struck in Arminiya in the year two hundred and nineteen.' The coin is of irregular round flan typical of Abbasid-era provincial hammered coinage, with slightly uneven strike and minor surface irregularities.
