| Reverse description | The reverse central field displays three lines of kufic Arabic script, with 'Allah' appearing above, followed by 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God,' and below that the name of the issuing ruler ''Abd Allah b. Ahmad,' identifying the Saffarid amir of Sijistan. An inner marginal inscription carries the blessing formula upon the Prophet, and the outer marginal legend bears the Quranic verse from Surat al-Rum (30:4-5) proclaiming God's command and the rejoicing of the believers. The design follows the standard Abbasid dirham format with concentric beaded and linear borders framing the inscribed fields. |
