| Obverse description | The brass centre features the quartered coat of arms of Andorra, depicting the heraldic symbols of the Bishop of Urgell, the Count of Foix, Catalonia, and Béarn, surmounted by an episcopal mitre and supported by elaborate baroque-style scrollwork. The motto legend VIRTVS VNITA FORTIOR appears on a ribbon below the shield within the centre. The copper-nickel outer ring bears the legend PRINCIPAT D'ANDORRA along the upper arc, with the denomination 1 D. at the base and the date 2006 below. |

Andorra's coinage authority issued this piece during the pontificate of Benedict XVI, whose election in April 2005 marked the first German pope since Adrian VI — a Dutchman elected in 1522. Andorra's unique co-princeship, jointly held by the Bishop of Urgell and the French head of state, gives the Catholic Church a direct constitutional role in the territory, making papal portraiture on Andorran coinage a matter of state protocol rather than mere commemoration.
