| Reverse description | The reverse presents a seated frontal figure of the Virgin Mary as Patroness of Moldavia, depicted enthroned and holding the Christ Child, in a hieratic style consistent with contemporary Moldavian ecclesiastical iconography. The figure occupies the central field, rendered with broad, simplified folds of drapery typical of hammered coinage of this period. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, with the mint mark S M flanking the figure, denoting the Suceava mint. The inscription PATRONA MOLDAV S M identifies the subject as the Patroness of Moldavia, Saint Maria. The strike is characteristic of the irregular flan and variable pressure associated with hammered provincial coinage. |
