Reverse description The reverse presents an entirely epigraphic composition in Arabic Kufic script, arranged in multiple horizontal registers filling the field to the flan edge. The legends contain the names of the Abbasid caliph and additional royal or religious titles affirming Ghurid sovereignty and Sunni orthodoxy. The script is angular and boldly struck, consistent with the hammered die technique employed for Ghurid gold coinage of the late 12th century. The irregular flan edge reflects the hand-cut planchet preparation standard to the period.
