Obverse description Central field occupied by multiple horizontal lines of Arabic Kufic and Naskh script arranged in a rectangular text panel, containing religious formulae and the name of the Abbasid caliph. The field is enclosed by a circular marginal legend in Arabic script running along the inner border. An outer beaded or dotted border frames the entire design. The flan is slightly irregular, as typical of hammered Islamic gold coinage of this period.
