Reverse description Reverse of this hammered gold dinar displaying multiple horizontal registers of Arabic Kufic script filling the central field. The legends include the shahada, Quranic verse (Quran 9:33), and the name of the issuing authority Muhammad b. 'Ali. A continuous marginal inscription in Kufic script encircles the central legends, bounded by a beaded border that follows the irregular outline of the flan. The execution is consistent with provincial Su'lukid mint practice of the early 4th century AH, with characteristic bold relief lettering.
