Obverse description Central field displays the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) in multiple horizontal lines of Kufic script within a square or rectangular central panel, surrounded by a circular marginal legend in Arabic. The inscription reads the kalima and acknowledgment of the Abbasid caliph's authority. A decorative pellet or annulet border frames the inner field, with a further outer marginal band of Arabic script running along the coin's periphery. The overall layout is characteristic of Samanid gold dinars, with well-struck angular Kufic letterforms filling the field in the traditional multi-line format.
