Obverse description At center, a faithful reproduction of the obverse of the 5 Aspers coin of Abd-el-Kader (KM#85, AH1255/1839) is depicted within a beaded circle, rendered in high relief with intricate Arabic calligraphic inscriptions and traditional Maghrebi stylistic motifs. The Arabic legend 'النقود الجزائرية' (Algerian Coinage) curves along the upper periphery of the field. The dual dating system is displayed flanking the central medallion: the Gregorian years 1839 and 1991 appear to the left, while the Hijri years 1255 and 1411 appear to the right. A further Arabic inscription identifying the coin of Abd-el-Kader runs along the lower portion of the field.
