Obverse description Central field dominated by the large numeral '1' enclosed within a raised circular border. Below the numeral, the Arabic denomination 'دينار واحد' (One Dinar) is inscribed. The surrounding annular band carries the full Arabic legend 'الجمهورية الجزائرية الديمقراطية الشعبية' (Democratic People's Republic of Algeria) running around the circumference, punctuated by decorative rosette ornaments at the base. Additional information

Issued as part of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization coin program, which ran through the 1960s and 70s and persuaded dozens of developing nations to mint specially designated pieces promoting agricultural development — Algeria's participation reflecting its post-independence push to reframe the economy around domestic food production after a century of French colonial extraction had skewed land use toward export crops. The two catalog variants, KM#104.1 and KM#104.2, differ in die alignment.
