| Reverse description | Reverse of this Hafsid gold dinar features a central square panel with a three-line Arabic inscription in Maghrebi Kufic script identifying the ruler as al-Imam Abu al-Abbas al-Fadl. The legend is arranged in bold, closely spaced lines within a dotted inner border. A lengthy Quranic marginal inscription from Surah al-Tawbah (9:33) encircles the central square, proclaiming divine authority over all religion. The flan is irregularly shaped and the relief is characteristic of hammered North African medieval gold coinage. |
