| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of Liberty as an allegorical figure, wearing a winged Phrygian cap with detailed feather relief and flowing hair rendered in fine strands. The legend LIBERTY arcs along the upper rim in individually spaced letters, while the motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in two lines in the lower left field. The date 2016 is inscribed along the lower rim, and the W mintmark of the West Point Mint appears to the right of the portrait's truncation. The design faithfully reproduces Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated 1916 Mercury Dime composition, here rendered in 24-karat gold with exceptional relief. |
