Christian V's "dicke" (thick) Krone issues of the 1690s were struck at a moment when Denmark was still financially strained from the Scanian War against Sweden, which had ended in 1679 with the Treaty of Fontainebleau — a settlement forced on Denmark by French pressure despite Danish battlefield successes. The crown needed hard currency, and these heavier silver pieces were part of a broader effort to stabilize royal finances through credible coinage rather than debasement.
