| Obverse lettering | CIVITAS CHII B I (Translation: City of Chios Battista Giustiniani) |
| Reverse description | A plain cross pattée of bold, even arms occupies the center of the coin, struck within a plain inner circle defined by a beaded border. The surrounding outer legend runs continuously around the periphery, separated from the inner circle by a narrow flat field. The overall design closely follows the standard reverse type of the medieval French denier tournois, adapted for the Genoese colonial coinage of Chios. |
