| Obverse description | Central field features a crowned royal monogram or cipher surmounted by a crown with fleur-de-lis finials, rendered in the late medieval hammered style typical of the Crown of Aragon coinage. The device is set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend, partially visible on the irregular flan, reads + FERDINANDVS D G RX in Latin characters, attributing the coin to Ferdinand II as king. |

| Additional information |
Ferdinand II of Aragon acquired Majorca through his marriage to Isabella of Castile and the broader unification of the Iberian crowns, but the island retained its own mint and distinctive coinage well into his reign. The "dog" deniers — so called for the hound-like animal struck on the reverse — are a continuation of a local billon tradition stretching back through the Majorcan series, distinguishing island issues from mainland Aragonese production. Cru. 1186 is among the more elusive of the Ferdinand II Majorcan deniers, with surviving examples typically showing considerable flan irregularity owing to the low-value billon blanks used.
