Additional information

Tomaso Mocenigo's dogeship coincided with Venice at perhaps its peak territorial and commercial confidence — the eastern Mediterranean trade network was functioning, Cyprus was paying tribute, and the republic's war with the Visconti had recently resolved in Venice's favor. The denaro piccolo was the workhorse of that economy's smallest transactions, struck in billon of progressively debased alloy as the century wore on.

The CNI VII attribution places this firmly within a well-documented sequence, though die varieties within Mocenigo's issue are numerous enough that precise matching to Paolucci's census rewards careful examination of the cross terminals.
