Obverse description Central field features a floriated cross with trefoil terminals, the arms of which spring from a decorative base, evoking the lily or fleur-de-lis motif characteristic of medieval Italian communal coinage. The design is contained within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by a beaded border. The overall composition is bold and stylized, consistent with hammered billon coinage of the mid-fifteenth century Marche region.
