Reverse description A bold plain cross divides the reverse field into four quarters, each containing one letter of the queen's name or title, reading MA / RIA / DEI / GRA in the quadrants formed by the arms of the cross. The cross is thick and well-defined, typical of the hammered denaro coinage of the Aragonese period in Sicily. The surrounding circular legend, rendered in Latin Gothic script with pellet stops, references the name and title of Queen Maria. The flan is irregularly shaped and shows the characteristic surface texture of hammered bronze, with green patina indicating age.
