| Reverse description | A plain cross pattée occupies the central field, its arms extending nearly to the inner beaded circle and dividing the field into four quarters. A circular legend surrounds the cross, introduced by a cross pattée, referencing the Marchio de Savona title. The design is characteristic of medieval Italian denari, with the cross serving as both a religious and administrative symbol of the issuing authority. |

| Additional information |
Alba's denari imperiali from this period circulated within a web of northern Italian commune rivalries, where the right to strike coin was as much a political assertion as an economic function. The "Marchio de Savona" attribution links this issue to the marquises whose authority over the mint fluctuated with the shifting alliances between Alba, Asti, and the Angevin presence in Piedmont.
Billon this debased rarely survived without heavy oxidation, which explains why CNI II records so few specimens in collectible condition.
