Obverse description A crowned eagle displayed facing left occupies the central field, rendered in the crude but distinctive style characteristic of late 15th- to early 16th-century Sicilian hammered coinage. The eagle is enclosed within an inner circle. The surrounding legend, in Latin script, reads + FERDINANDUS • DG, attributing the coin to Ferdinand II as King by divine grace. The flan is irregular in shape, as is typical of hammered bronze issues of this period.
