Obverse description Within a plain inner circle, the conjoined monogram 'FR' in large Gothic letters occupies the central field, surmounted by a horizontal bar; a six-pointed star appears in the lower field beneath the monogram. The surrounding legend, separated from the inner circle by a beaded border, reads FR ✠ ROM • IPERATOR, identifying Frederick II as Roman Emperor. The overall design is bold and heraldic in character, typical of Hohenstaufen imperial coinage.
