Reverse description A bold cross pattée with fleurs-de-lis terminating each of the four arms, all contained within a plain inner circle, reflecting the Angevin dynastic motif repeated on both sides of the coin. The cross divides the inner field into four equal quadrants. The peripheral legend is distributed around the outer border of the irregularly shaped flan. The overall style is characteristic of hammered billon coinage struck under Charles I of Anjou during his rule over the Kingdom of Sicily.
