| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a plain cross with a small circle at its intersection, dividing the design into four quadrants. The legend SANT ZENO, invoking Saint Zeno, patron saint of Verona, is distributed across the four quadrants formed by the cross arms. The lettering is rendered in a crude, angular medieval Gothic style characteristic of hammered billon coinage of the period. The coin's irregular flan and beaded border are consistent with 13th–14th century northern Italian municipal issues. The overall die work is simple and utilitarian, reflecting the modest denomination. |
