Obverse description Laureate bust of King Louis-Philippe I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed curling hair beneath an olive wreath. The truncation is bare, with the engraver's signature BARRE and the date 1840 inscribed in small characters below. The circumferential legend reads LOUIS PHILIPPE I ROI DES FRANÇAIS, distributed around the field, separated by the portrait. The rim is bordered by a continuous inner beaded circle within a raised outer rim.

Reverse description The denomination 1 DÉCIME is displayed in two lines at the centre of the field, enclosed within a large, finely engraved laurel wreath tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The circular legend REFONTE DES MONNAIES DE CUIVRE runs along the upper periphery, while the word ESSAI appears in the lower field beneath the wreath, denoting the trial or pattern status of the piece. The rim is finished with a beaded inner border consistent with the obverse.
