Obverse description Laureate bust of King Louis-Philippe I facing left, with curly hair and a laurel wreath tied at the nape with a ribbon. The effigy is finely modelled in high relief with naturalistic detail. The circular legend reads LOUIS PHILIPPE I ROI DES FRANÇAIS around the periphery, separated by the bust truncation. The engravers' signatures TIOLIER ET BARRE appear in small capitals below the truncation. A beaded border frames the entire design.
