Reverse description Central device depicts a fasces (faisceau), the Roman symbol of civic authority, rendered vertically and in high relief, flanked on either side by symmetrical oak branch wreaths. The circular legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE' runs along the upper periphery, while the date '1793' and 'L'AN 2' appear in the lower exergual area, separated by the mintmark 'L'. A beaded border encloses the entire design. The reverse references the Revolutionary calendar and iconography of the First Republic, though the piece was struck as a pattern in 1870.
