Obverse description Uniface pattern design by Christopher Ironside featuring two heraldic shields crossed saltire-fashion and surmounted by a royal crown with foliate sprays. The dexter shield displays a rampant lion, while the sinister shield bears a diagonal cross, both rendered in high relief. The numeral '1' appears prominently in the lower field below the central device. The circular legend 'DECIMAL PENNY' and the date '1963' are inscribed around the periphery, flanking the central composition. The entire design is contained within a fine beaded border.
