Obverse description Armored three-quarter bust of Duke Karl (later Karl IX of Sweden) facing right, wearing a ruffled collar and elaborately decorated plate armor, with a sword or baton visible at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in a late Renaissance style typical of German-influenced Swedish coinage of the period. A beaded inner circle frames the central device. The surrounding legend reads CAROLVS D G DVX SVDE ET WEND, identifying the issuer as Duke of Södermanland and Västerås, with lettering in Roman capitals.
