Obverse description Armored, bareheaded bust of Philip II facing left, with the date appearing below the bust as an inverted extension of the surrounding legend. The countermark A13.1, depicting the Holland lion, is applied behind the neck in the field. The effigy is rendered in the characteristic hammered style of mid-sixteenth-century Burgundian Netherlands coinage, with fine detail on the cuirass. The peripheral Latin legend encircles the bust, interrupted only by the placement of the countermark.

Reverse description Crowned composite shield displaying the quartered arms of Spain and Austria-Burgundy, with a small inescutcheon of Gelderland at the center. The badge of the Order of the Golden Fleece hangs below the shield on a chain. The shield is flanked on both sides by firesteels emitting sparks, emblematic of the Burgundian-Habsburg dynasty. The entire device is set within a circular Latin legend, and the composition follows the established Philipsdaalder type introduced under Philip II for the Netherlandish provinces.
