Obverse description Armored and laureate bust of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, facing right, brandishing a sword in his right hand and grasping a bundle of arrows in his left, emblematic of the Union of Utrecht. The effigy is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the provincial legend occupying the outer field. The portrait is rendered in the bold, high-relief style characteristic of late sixteenth-century Dutch hammered coinage.
