Obverse description Armored knight standing facing right, holding a sword upright in the right hand and a crowned shield bearing the crowned lion of Utrecht on the left arm. The figure is rendered in bold relief within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding Latin legend is divided by the knight's form and reads across the field. The overall design is characteristic of the Dutch hammered silver coinage of the mid-seventeenth century, with vigorous if somewhat crude workmanship typical of the Utrecht mint.
