Obverse description Central field dominated by a crudely rendered embattled tower or castle, derived from the civic seal of Alkmaar, struck in low relief on a roughly prepared tin flan. The denomination numeral '30' appears in the lower exergue beneath the tower. A circular Latin legend reading SIGILLVM DE ALCMAR surrounds the central device, inscribed in irregular letterforms characteristic of hastily produced siege coinage. The overall execution is crude and irregular, reflecting the emergency nature of the issue produced during the Spanish siege of 1573.
