| Additional information |
PROVA issues from the Casa da Moeda do Brasil were internal proof strikes produced for official evaluation and archival purposes, not for public sale or circulation. The 1974 cruzeiro sits in an awkward monetary moment: Brazil's military government had already set in motion the inflationary spiral that would eventually require the currency to be replaced entirely — the cruzeiro was redenominated in 1986, then again in 1990, then again in 1993. Most PROVA pieces from this period survive in small numbers distributed among government archives, with occasional examples reaching the market through estate dispersals.
