| Obverse description | Crowned and quartered coat of arms of Austria-Burgundy occupies the central field, flanked on either side by a firesteel (flint and steel), emblems of the Order of the Golden Fleece. A radiant sun rises above the crown, giving the coin its popular designation as the 'Sun Crown.' The heraldic shield is rendered in the late Gothic style characteristic of Habsburgian coinage. The full titular legend of Charles V runs in Latin along the coin's circumference. |

| Reverse description | A cross pattée with fleur-de-lis terminations occupies the full reverse field, dividing it into four quadrants in which towers and imperial double-headed eagles alternate, referencing the heraldic traditions of Castile and the Holy Roman Empire respectively. The date and mint mark appear at the conclusion of the circumferential Latin legend. The design is executed in the hammered tradition, with characteristic irregularity in the flan. |
