| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of King George III facing right, rendered in high relief with finely engraved curling hair falling to the shoulder and a classical laurel wreath crown. The portrait occupies the centre of the field against a mirror-like dark background. The circumferential Latin legend reads GEORGIUS III DEI GRATIA REX, separated by a stop, with the initials CHK appearing after the legend. The design is framed by a bold milled border of fine radial reeds running the full circumference. |

| Reverse description | The central device features two large Scottish thistles in full bloom, flanking a pair of crossed swords or sceptres, all rendered in fine relief against a darkened field. Above this heraldic composition rises an ornate royal crown surmounted by a cross, displayed in high detail. The commemorative date 18 08 is divided to either side of the crown. The circumferential Latin legend QUAE DEUS CONIUNXIT NEMO SEPARET runs along the upper portion of the border, while the word SCOTLAND appears at the base, all separated by decorative stops and enclosed within the same fine radial milled border as the obverse. |
