Obverse description Left-facing laureate and cuirassed effigy of King George II, engraved in the older bust style by John Tanner, with flowing curled hair rendered in fine relief beneath a prominent laurel wreath. The king's truncation displays detailed armour and drapery folds. The Latin legend GEORGIUS·II·DEI·GRATIA· runs along the periphery, separated by a raised border of fine milling. The composition displays strong, high-relief portraiture characteristic of mid-18th century Royal Mint craftsmanship.
