| Obverse description | Third-generation crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, as designed by Raphael Maklouf, depicted wearing the George IV State Diadem adorned with floral motifs and a pearl necklace with drop earring. The draped bust is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field, set within a raised inner border. The peripheral legend reads ELIZABETH II to the left and ISLE OF MAN · 2000 to the right, with the initials PM and RDM incorporated into the design. |

| Additional information |
The Isle of Man Treasury has issued lunar-themed crowns since the early 1980s, making it one of the first Western mints to systematically chase the Chinese collector market with annual zodiac releases. By 2000, the series was well-established enough that the Dragon year issue competed directly with offerings from the Perth Mint and the Royal Mint — a crowded field that has since only grown more congested.
KM#1016b is the gold proof variant within a multi-metal release that year, with the .9999 fine specification distinguishing it from earlier Isle of Man gold issues that typically ran at .9170.
