Additional information

The Isle of Man Treasury has issued lunar-themed crowns since the early 1980s, making it one of the first Western mints to systematically chase the Chinese collector market with annual zodiac releases. By 2000, the series was well-established enough that the Dragon year issue competed directly with offerings from the Perth Mint and the Royal Mint — a crowded field that has since only grown more congested.

KM#1016b is the gold proof variant within a multi-metal release that year, with the .9999 fine specification distinguishing it from earlier Isle of Man gold issues that typically ran at .9170.
