The Isle of Man's annual lunar series, running since 1983, was one of the earliest Western mint programs to systematically target the Chinese collector market. By 1994 the series had established enough secondary market traction that the Pobjoy Mint — which strikes most Manx issues — produced parallel versions in silver and gold alongside the base metal edition, with the copper-nickel piece absorbing the bulk of general circulation demand.
