Additional information

Issued as part of Gibraltar's extensive World War I centenary commemorative program, this crown marks the naval dimension of the conflict — a theater often overshadowed by the Western Front in popular memory, despite the Royal Navy's critical role in maintaining the blockade that slowly strangled German war production. Gibraltar itself sat at the chokepoint between Atlantic and Mediterranean, and its garrison lived the naval war as a daily operational reality rather than a distant headline.
