Additional information

The Isle of Man has long exploited its status as a Crown Dependency with significant fiscal autonomy to issue commemorative coinage well outside the scope of UK monetary policy — a cottage industry that accelerated sharply through the 1980s under the Pobjoy Mint's contract. This FIFA World Cup issue coincided with the tournament hosted by Mexico, a competition remembered as much for Maradona's "Hand of God" goal against England as for any numismatic occasion.

The .925 silver version was struck alongside base metal counterparts in the same series, differentiated by the "b" suffix in the KM numbering.
