Additional information

Pobjoy Mint struck this crown for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Japan and South Korea — the first tournament held in Asia and the first shared between two nations. The arrangement was the product of years of bitter lobbying, with both countries having separately bid for sole hosting rights before FIFA controversially split the tournament in 1996.
