Churchill's "Let us go forward together" phrase dates to a May 1940 broadcast delivered days after he became Prime Minister, at the precise moment Britain stood without a Continental ally and invasion appeared imminent. Gibraltar itself was under serious threat during that period — Franco's Spain debated ceding the Rock to Germany as late as 1941, a deal Hitler ultimately wanted but never secured.
Tombac, a brass alloy, has been the standard substrate for Gibraltar's gold-plated crown issues for decades, keeping costs low enough for commemorative volume production.
