Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic with a permanent population that has never exceeded 300, issues commemorative crowns as a revenue exercise through the Pobjoy Mint. The VE Day series is one of dozens of such programs. The island had no direct military involvement in World War II, though its remote position made it strategically useful for weather observation and as a cable relay station monitored by the Royal Navy.
