Additional information

Gibraltar's Crown issues have long occupied an awkward position in numismatic taxonomy — legal tender on the Rock, largely ignored by mainstream British Commonwealth collectors, and marketed almost exclusively to the thematic buyer. This 2021 proof was struck to commemorate the pre-decimal two-shilling coin, part of a broader wave of nostalgia issues timed loosely around the fiftieth anniversary of British decimalization, which took place on 15 February 1971 and rendered the florin obsolete overnight after nearly 130 years of continuous issue.
