Gibraltar's crown series of the 1990s leaned heavily on entertainment licensing, issuing commemoratives tied to Hollywood figures with no meaningful connection to the territory. The Marx Brothers — Groucho, Harpo, Chico, and Zeppo — had their peak at Paramount and MGM between 1929 and 1941, decades before this coin existed and continents away from the Rock.
By 1996, only Zeppo's widow remained among immediate family. The licensing would have run through the Marx Brothers' estate.
