Additional information

Gibraltar has issued commemorative crowns on virtually every conceivable historical theme, and the English Civil War series sits among its more substantive efforts. The conflict it marks — fought between 1642 and 1651 — ended with Charles I's execution in January 1649, the only time an English monarch was formally tried and beheaded by his own Parliament. The republican Commonwealth that followed lasted just eleven years before Charles II's restoration in 1660.
