Tristan da Cunha, the most remote permanently inhabited island on earth, issues commemorative crowns largely through the Pobjoy Mint under licensing arrangements with the British Crown. These pieces circulate almost nowhere — the island's population has rarely exceeded 300, and barter and imported goods dominate daily exchange. The "Syren" issue belongs to a mythological series produced for the collector market rather than any functional monetary purpose.
KM# 101 is essentially unknown in circulation wear for this reason.
